Learning to Pray

To start, check out Youcat's 10 Steps to Personal Prayer.  This gives an idea of how to get started mentally.

Here is a simple formula to follow to exercise contemplative prayer.   This could be simply prayed silently in your head or written down in a journal.
  1. Address God with Praise
-examples: 'Almighty God', 'Loving God', Dear God, you are so wonderful', 'Lord, you are amazing', 'All-powerful God'
  2. Ask God for forgiveness
-examples: 'I'm sorry if I have failed you by failing others', 'I regret that I didn't respect my parents this week'
  3. Pray for blessings
-examples: 'Please help me focus on my studies this week', 'Send your blessings on my grandma who is sick right now'
  4. Thank God
-example: 'Thank you, Lord, for you are good.'
This is a great foundation to build on the more you feel comfortable with prayer.
